IRONMAN 70.3 Racine | 2016
Location: Racine, Wisconsin
Event: Ironman 70.3 (also known as a half-ironman triathlon)
Distance: 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride, and 13.1-mile Run
Weather: In July, Racine temperatures range from 57°F to 74°F, accompanied by high humidity and occasional precipitation.
The 2016 Ironman Racine 70.3 had its swim portion canceled due to severe weather, specifically lightning, dangerous water conditions, and strong gusting winds.
This resulted in the race being converted to a middle-distance duathlon, where athletes competed in a modified format of the bike and run legs.
The race started 1-2 hours after the scheduled start time, so I went hungry and ate eggs and potatoes for breakfast, which was not a good idea. I had some stomach issues. Other than that, I survived the duathlon.
The race started in a time trial format, with every pro beginning every 2 minutes. I felt good during the bike leg, even though it was very windy; however, during the Run, I experienced some stomach issues, and I managed to finish in 12th place in the Pro Category.
